RETENTION
How long we keep things
The retention schedule, in one table.
Version 1.1. Effective 10 September 2026.
The schedule
| What | How long we keep it | What happens then |
|---|---|---|
| Your memory, while your account is open | For as long as your account is open | Nothing. It is yours. |
| Your memory, after you close your account | Soft-deleted immediately, permanently anonymised within 30 days | Anonymised, and not recoverable |
| Operational backups | 30 days | They roll off automatically. A restore never brings back memory you asked us to erase. |
| Your audit log: entries recording that something was read | 90 days | Deleted |
| Your audit log: every other entry | Full detail for 275 days, then the who, what and when are kept without the detail | Anonymised with the rest of your data when you close your account |
| Your audit log: billing and subscription entries | Six years from the end of the relevant tax year | Deleted. We are required by law to keep these. |
| Account and billing records | Six years from the end of the relevant tax year | Deleted. We are required by law to keep these. |
| Newsletter subscription | Until you unsubscribe | Deleted |
| Form and support messages | 24 months | Deleted |
| Rate-limiting hash of your IP address | 24 hours | Deleted |
| Website analytics | Aggregate only, nothing that identifies you | No retention period applies |

Read entries are the record that something was looked at; they are the largest and least useful part of the log, so they roll off first. The record of what changed, and who changed it, is kept.
A restore from backup never resurrects memory you asked us to erase.
