What does private AI mean?
It is three separate claims wearing one label: where the processing happens, where the data is stored, and whether it trains a model. A product can be honest about one and silent on the other two.
Does private mean local?
Not necessarily. Some products mean the model runs on your own machine. Others mean the data is stored in a particular region. Others mean only that they do not train on it. Ask which one is meant.
What should I ask a vendor?
Where does the processing happen, where is the data stored, and does any of it train a model. If a vendor cannot answer all three plainly, the label is doing the work the answers should.
