Get your data out.

The exact steps to export your history from six apps, ready to import into your Twin.

Last verified

These are the official, first-party export routes only. No browser extensions, no third-party transfer tools, no scraping; if an app changes its export, this page changes with it, which is what the date above is for. Every file you export here imports through Settings, then Import, and lands in your review queue for you to confirm.

ChatGPT

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Data controls, then Export data, and confirm.
  2. OpenAI emails you a download link. Small accounts usually arrive within the hour; the stated maximum is longer, so do not sit refreshing.
  3. The link lasts 24 hours. Download the zip; inside it, conversations.json holds your full history (large accounts may split it into numbered parts, which is normal, import them all).

Worth knowing: export is available on the Free plan. It is not available on Business or Enterprise accounts, where your workspace admin holds the data controls.

Claude

  1. In claude.ai, open Settings, then Privacy, then Export data.
  2. An email link arrives; it lasts 24 hours and you must be signed in to use it. Export runs from the web or desktop app, not from the mobile apps.
  3. The zip contains your conversations as structured files.

Worth knowing: Claude's export does not include its memory of you or your Projects. If you want those in your Twin, copy the memory summary from Claude's settings and paste it in as its own capture.

Gemini

  1. Go to takeout.google.com and choose Deselect all.
  2. Tick My Activity, open All activity data included, choose Deselect all, tick Gemini Apps, and confirm.
  3. Next step, choose a zip delivery, and create the export. The link arrives by email and lasts 7 days.

The trap: do not tick the product called Gemini. That exports your Gems, not your conversations. Your chats live under My Activity, then Gemini Apps, and arrive as an HTML file, which imports fine. Also worth knowing: Google only keeps what activity saving was on for, and by default trims activity older than 18 months.

Notion

  1. For one page: the three-dot menu at the top right, then Export. For everything: Settings, then General, then Export all workspace content.
  2. Choose Markdown and CSV as the format and include subpages.
  3. Small exports download at once; large ones arrive by email link, which lasts 7 days.

Worth knowing: pages export as Markdown files and databases as CSV snapshots of their current view. Full-workspace PDF export is a Business-plan feature, but you do not need it; Markdown is the better import.

Obsidian

There is no export, in the best way: your vault already is the export, a folder of Markdown files on your device. Locate the vault folder and import it as it stands. If you use Obsidian Sync, the files are still local on each synced device; pick any of them.

WhatsApp

Per chat, on your phone:

  • iPhone: open the chat, tap the name at the top, scroll down, tap Export Chat, and choose Without Media.
  • Android: open the chat, tap the three-dot menu, then More, then Export chat, and choose Without media.

Share the file to yourself (Mail or Files works well). You get a text file of the conversation, zipped on iPhone.

Worth knowing: exports are capped at roughly the most recent 40,000 messages without media, or 10,000 with media, per chat. Without Media is the right choice for your Twin, which wants the words. And if Export Chat is missing from a conversation, the other person has likely enabled Advanced Chat Privacy, which blocks exporting that chat; that is their setting, not a fault.

After importing

Whatever the source, the pattern is the same: the import classifies your history into typed memories and queues them for your review in batches. Confirm what belongs, skip what does not. Nothing is saved until you confirm.
